Precautions Worth Taking

Consider the precautions you should take before buying a boat in order to protect yourself.  Set yourself some rules and really try to stick to them!

View the boat, then sit on the idea; then view it again,  Maybe take the boat out on the water for a sea trial.  Check the general condition of the craft, find out what kind of warranty you will get and also what the payment terms are.

It is also very important to check the integrity of the documents that go with the boat.  Check the boat you are looking at is the one that the documents say it is.  Check there is no outstanding finance, that the VAT is paid, and try and use a broker or dealer - or even negotiate directly with the manufacturer.

Finally before the sale, use a reputable surveyor and have the boat surveyed.
