ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge 4 Years, 1 Month ago
First Teams Qualify for ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge Final.

The 1st Regional Final was held at Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club last Sunday and it saw an exciting start to the competition.
This Regional Final saw a lot of 1st none more than the 1st running of the Junior Class. Teams were excited and nervous of what the competition laid in store for them. But there was no need for them to worry.
They had to carry out 4 tasks.
1) Each Team Member tie 2 Knots,
2) Throw a Rescue Line.
3) Answer Nautical Theory Questions
4) Helm & Crew a Tiller engine Boat around a set course.
All these tasks were carried out with enthusiasm and in a very professional manner.
Scoring was tight and in the end the first Junior Regional ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge was won on home soil by CYBC.
1st : CYBC Harry Cronin, Jennifer Lonergan & Andrew Heney.
2nd IYSC Leah Flanagan, Elly Nuzum & Aoife O Neill
3rd CYBC R O Donoghue, H Tunney, C O Reilly.

The Senior Team Competition was just as exciting an affair which saw some rivalry between the two teams the Royal St George had entered and of course the local CYBC team were not going to make it easy for any team to beat them at Home.
As the day went on it was clear that the teams were equally matched and the trailer handling competition really saw team sprit and tactics at play.
But in the end there had to be a winner.
1st Royal St George Yacht Club, Troy McNamara, Ken Fitzpatrick & Denis English
2nd CYBC P Clohisey, G Stirling & B O Donohgue.
3rd RSGYC P Ferguson, Alex Ferguson & A Ferguson.

Next Regional Final will be held in Youghal with Aquatrek as hosts on 29th August. Full details of competition to be found on www.sailing.ie/motorboat

Competition couldn’t have been tighter in Mayo.

On Saturday last Mayo Sailing Club Hosted the North West Regional Final of the ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge 2010.

Conditions were good and the sun came out to shine on a competition that saw the top of the leader board change on a regular basis.

In the Senior Competition any of the top six teams could have taken the top spot as the final test approached.

The Teams assembled in the Club house to hear the final scores, those present didn’t release that the competition was only beginning. The top 3 teams were divided by only ½ point.

Bellacrogher Bay Boat Club on 74 with Clifden 2 & Mayo Sailing Club on 74.5.

With Bellacrogher taking third and 1st to qualify for the National Final. Cliften and Mayo had to have a score count back to decide the winner. But on the count back both teams were equal. Out came the nautical questions and it was a case of sudden death. After the first 10 question both teams were tied then on the eleventh Mayo made a mistake and the Regional Win went to Clifden 2.

Senior Results.

1st Cliften Sailing Club 2

2nd Mayo Sailing Club

3rd Bellacrogher Bay Boat Club.

The junior competition did not go to a count back but it was as close. The youngest Team to enter this year came from Bellacrogher Bay Boat Club and up to the final test seemed as if they would win. At the top scores were so tight that one mistake could lose you the top spot. Bellacrogher were to find this out but came in a well deserved third. Ahead was the Clifden Junior Team and winner’s were the Mayo Juniors.

Junior Results

1st Mayo Juniors

2nd Clifden Juniors

3rd Bellacrogher Juniors.

Thanks to all the helped out especially Noel Conlon of Seatec and Mayo Sailing Club for making all feel so welcome. Trish for looking after all our catering needs.

Many thanks to all the teams that took part and it was great to hear from for those that did not qualify that they had a great time and looked forward to next Year.

The Regional Finals have been completed and the results are in.

All places have been filled and thirty Two teams have qualified for Final of 2010 ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge.
Over the past months there has been five Regional Finals held throughout this small island of ours where we have seen ISA clubs and Training centres battle it out for qualifying placing in the Final. This year the competition got the attention it deserved and it was great to see the interest that it generated within the clubs and Training centres. As I attended each Regional final it was great get feedback from the clubs and competitors, saying how this competition showed them a new side to Powerboating and how much they enjoyed being part of it. It also brought young and old together within the clubs where the training and preparations took place.
This year Yachtsman euromarine and the ISA are starting to see how this competition is growing and achieving the goals it set itself from the start. The calibre of the competition and teams is higher, each point is precious and the preparation of the teams shows this.

Re:ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Two Clubs held off stiff competition to win a new Rib in the Final of the ISA Yachtsman Euromarine Rib Challenge.

Three satisfied members of Clifden Boat Club drove away from Limerick yesterday with a brand new rib in tow for their club. Damian Ward, Brian Ward and Roger Snow were representing the Clifden club at the ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge 2010 Final where the prize for the winning team was a brand new rescue boat valued at over €20,000. The competition began in August with 5 regional heats taking place throughout the country. This saw the top 16 teams then qualify for the Final which was hosted by last year’s winners, Foynes Yacht Club, Co. Limerick. The Galway men worked hard at their regional qualifier to secure a place in the final and then battled skilfully against the other 15 teams to earn a place in the final 4. Having whittled the 16 finalists down to the top 4 teams, the deciding event took place consisting of an on the water manoeuvrability challenge. The Clifden team performed to the highest standard, which ultimately lead them to victory and the grand prize yesterday.

Initially the competition was only accessible to participants over the age of 16 but this year that all changed with the introduction of a junior competition for participants between the ages of 12 and 16. This was a personal goal for Matthew McGrory as he is passionate about getting children educated in safe, responsible but most of all, fun, participation of water sports. It was an all girls team from Lough Derg Yacht Club that captured the essence of the competition blowing the other finalist out of the water. They demonstrated all the skills, knowledge and awareness needed to win and so deservedly took home the junior grand prize of yet another new rib valued at over €10,000.

The competition began 3 years ago thanks to Matthew McGrory of Yachtsman euromarine in conjunction with the ISA (Irish Sailing Association) as an exciting, fun way to promote safe use of powerboats on the water. Competitors take part in a number of challenging tasks from safe boat handling and theory navigation to manoeuvring a trailer and even throwing a safety line simulating a rescue. These skills are paramount for any water user and rewarding those who strive to make our waters a safer place is an honour to both Yachtsman euromarine and the ISA.

Congratulations to both Clifden Boat Club and Lough Derg Yacht Club
