#CoastalNotes - Kilkee bathers looking forward to the return of diving boards at Newfoundout will have to wait at least another year, as the Limerick Leader reports.
The news comes after Clare County Council refused to allow the installation of a new set of diving boards at the popular swimming spot due to the lack of a warrant from the manufacturer “that they were fit for purpose to be used at the location”.
Disappointment is the word among local swimmers following a successful crowdfunding campaign for the new diving boards by Kilkee Chamber of Commerce, after the previous boards were damaged last year.
The council is now "assessing" a proposal by Kilkee Chamber to examine various options to ensure a diving platform is in place for next year's summer season.
“From our point of view, there is a bigger picture and that is that we end up with something more concrete that is there for 30 years and we are not having a discussion every two years about whether the boards go up or don’t go up; put the proper structure in place,” said Kilkee Chamber spokesperson Cillian Murphy.
