#MessageInABottle - The Boston Globe has news of a remarkable recent discovery by Irish diver Rory Golden on the Connemara coast - a bottle with a message from thousands of miles across the Atlantic.
Golden, a veteran during expert and perhaps best known as the first Irishman to visit the wreck of the Titanic in person, tells of his and his crew's surprise at finding the bottle bobbing near the shore at Claddaghduff.
“We opened the bottle, which was intact — there was a screw cap, which survived, amazingly," says Golden. "I pulled out the zip-lock bag and unrolled it, and I had that ‘wow’ moment. Natalie’s note was there in front of me."
The Natalie in question is Natalie Schnitzer, who was aged 11 when she sent her message in a bottle into the Atlantic from Nantucket a little under two years ago.
It's one of a number of similar messages that Schnitzer and her family have set adrift over the years as a summer tradition - but the first to have travelled so far.
