A Belfast firm has won a contract to build a major power station to cope with electricity generated by Irish Sea wind turbines.
Powerteam Electrical Services will build a substation linked to a 51-turbine wind farm off the Lancashire coast. The Wainey offshore farm will power more than 150,000 homes. The contract is worth just under €1million.
The contract is the first time PES have build a station for an offshore farm, and will take nine months to complete. The UK is pumping vast amounts of money into Irish Sea windfarms, with 1,000 MW of offshore wind power already installed, and a further 4,000MW already under construction or planned.
