#DublinBay - The Irish Times reports that the first section of the long-awaited Sutton to Sandycove cycleway around Dublin Bay will begin this summer more than 10 years after plans were first set in motion.
Works will soon get underway on the 2km stretch of Clontarf Road between the Bull Island causeway and the wooden bridge at the Bull Wall.
A previous plan for this gap in the present cycleway from Sutton to East Point would have involved a suspended promenade over the Bull Island lagoon but was shelved over its €14 million cost.
The new solution, expected to cost at least €5 million, will see a narrowing of the current road layout to provide space for a new cycleway and footpath, as well as much needed repairs to the sea wall.
