Captain Simon Coate has been appointed Harbour Master of Dun Laoghaire Harbour. He succeeds Captain Jim Carter, who has retired after 34 years at the helm.
A Master Mariner, Captain Coate spent 29 years at sea in the Merchant Navy, with the marine oil exploration industry and then with Commissioners of Irish Lights. He joined Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company in 1991 and was appointed Port Operations Manager in 2000 with responsibility for security and all port related commercial activities.
Simon is well known on the waterfront as he has been the liaison between the Harbour and the waterfront yacht clubs and the County Council for many sailing and land based activities and events for over two decades. Simon is married with three adult children.
The Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company is a state commercial company, charged with the responsibility for the maintenance and development of Dun Laoghaire Harbour. The Company is also responsible for enhancing the recreational and amenity value of the harbour, and promoting investment and commercial development to support its operation and maintenance.
