Mooring & Pontoon Development in Youghal Harbour

7th March 2016
Pontoons and visitor swing moorings are to be installed in Youghal harbour. See full notice below Pontoons and visitor swing moorings are to be installed in Youghal harbour. See full notice below

Floating pontoons and visitors swing moorings at Nealon's Quay and Youghal have been proposed by Cork County Council. The plans of the long overdue development are available for inspection at County Hall in Cork over the next six weeks.

Installation includes 'steel piles, access gangway, visitor swing moorings and associated indfrastructure' according to the notice that is posted below.

The notice follows a story on January 13th on Afloat.ie that pointed to pontoon development on the south coast town. A local pressure group, however, indicated that talk of a 'much needed' town marina was premature.

Wow ! finally Cork CC may have realised what a game changer lesure marine facilities could be for this forgotten outpost of Cork - watch out Cork harbour and Kinsale.

Hopefully the plans will allow for future development of a dinghy park and launching area to compliment the new yachting facilities and allow younger or more active local sailors hit the waves.

Well done Cork CC for finally seeing the light, my local CC in Wicklow saw it for Greystones backwater some time back and perservered to provide really excellent facilities recentering the town towards a vibrant heart.
