Windfarm Support Vessels Added to Waterford Operator

#WindfarmSupport - A pair of 18m long windfarm support, passenger transfer and survey support catamarans are the latest additions to Waterford based Fastnet Shipping, writes Jehan Ashmore.

The windfarm support vessels named Fastnet Pelican and Fastnet Petrel are of 60 tonnes each and they join the fleet of the marine plant hire and services company. The operator is based in Bilberry, just upriver on the Suir from Waterford City.

Capable of 25 knots, the craft have a trading service area of up to 150 nautical miles and the sisters are with Norwegian classification society, Det Norske Veritas. The class notation is DNV + 1A1 HSLC R1 Wind Farm Service 1.

The windfarm support catamarans can carry 12 personnel to installations during crew transfers in conditions up to 2m significant wave-heights.

Accommodation on the workboats is centred on a large spacious cabin fitted with suspension seats.

There is a mess facility, toilet and shower in addition to a personnel technician changing area or 'wet'-room.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
