#ShippingReview - Jehan Ashmore reviews the shipping scene from among the following stories of the past fortnight.

Scenic Kinsale with its marina and fishing fleet based in the west Cork harbour is widely renowned for its culinary status, however what is probably less known is its commercial shipping. A recent caller been newbuild Arklow Cape loaded with malted barley made its first call to the Munster port.

The possibility of utilising harbours in Greencastle or even Buncrana in Co. Donegal for commercial shipping could emerge as an unexpected positive consequence of Brexit.

Shipping and logistics operator Irish Continental Group release full-year results. In the first 10 months of the year, group revenue was up 1.6 per cent, car volumes by 3 per cent and roll-on/roll-off freight by 5 per cent.

Two thirds of exporters go through Britain a survey suggests to get their produce to customers on mainland Europe and further afield. The survey also revealed that 40pc of exporters said that using a longer, yet more direct, route would adversely affect the quality of the product.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
