Win a FREE RIB for your cub

You could win a brand new RIB for your club or sailing school courtesy of Yachtsman Euromarine this summer. The ISA Yachtsman euromarine Rib Challenge.

The RIB skills competition takes place with heats around the country at the end of the summer, with top-quality RIBs up for grabs for the winners. The competition is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of powerboat crews whilst providing a chance to represent their club or training centre in a competitive environment.

ISA President Peter Crowley expressed his surprise at the ISA Annual Conference earlier in the year that more clubs had not taken part in 2009. He said that it was strange that clubs turned down an opportunity to equip their clubs with a boat worth several thousand euro, and urged more clubs to take part in the event this year. Ten teams made the finals last year, with Foynes coming out the victor.

There are two categories, under- and over-16s. More details soon on www.sailing.ie/motorboat

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
