Butler and Moore lead Fireballs

25th July 2009

Pre-event favourties Noel Butler and Seamus Moore have taken the overnight lead in the  Fireball National Championships on Clew Bay. With gales forecast for later today on all coastal waters four more races are planned today. The 28–boat boat fleet got superb conditions at Rosmoney for the opening rounds and class president Cormac Bradley expects the same again this morning. An expected assault by British helmsmen has not materialised so far with Dun Laoghaire's Kenny Rumball and Karl Cooney lying second with a string of consistent scores (2,2,3,4). Third is Bath's Andy Pearce/Hugh Butler with a (7,1,2,3). Phil Lawton and Francis Rowan are fifth. Wil Moody, back from South Africa for the regatta, is sailing with John Lowe and they lie sixth. Tonight's forecast provides the surest indicator that the 2009 national championships will be cut short and conclude this evening.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
