Golding, credited as being the first person to sail both ways around the world, was entered in the double handed division with crew Graham Tourell and the entry into Ireland's offshore fixture was regarded as a feather in the cap for Wicklow organisers.
Easily in with a chance of the race record Golding last week shaved two hours, 10 minutes and nine seconds off the 284-mile French race from St Nazaire to St Malo around the coast of Brittany.
Golding's departure reduces double handed fleet to seven entries.
Also out of the fleet is Adrian Lee's Irisha, from Dun Laoghaire, a regular competitor since 1990, who has withdrawn for business reasons.
The pull-outs however do little to affect this year's line up however. There are Two Volvo Ocean 60s teams, Jean Phillipe Chomette’s record breaking 60-footer, Solune, from La Rochelle, and the 30 metre maxi Konica Minolta which is due in to Dun Laoghaire next Tuesday, are all capable of breaking the sub three day barrier and the long standing 76 hour record.
The fleet now stands at 39 entries for next Saturday's (July 1) start at 4pm from Wicklow.
