Howth expects big turnout

9th September 2008

The first race in the GreenWorks-sponsored Autumn League at Howth Yacht Club starts this Sunday, beginning another eagerly anticipated six-race series for the 180 boats expected to compete across 11 classes.

There are a number of changes to the format this year, not least a break in the middle (after three races) to accommodate the ISA’s All-Ireland Sailing Championships in the Sailfleet J80s and Laser Radials on October 4th and 5th, sponsored by Euro Car Parks.

A new innovation to this year’s Autumn League, endorsed enthusiastically by boat-owners and their crews, is the introduction of a Slalom Race for cruisers, with each class (except the White Sail Cruisers) given one slalom race during the series.

The One-Designs have not been forgotten either, as each of those classes will be given a Windward-Leeward race during the series. A number of Laser SB3s will use the first race as practice for the following week’s World Championships in Dublin Bay.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
