Mumbo.ie a jumbo challenge

20th June 2008

Afloat.ie spoke to John Chambers, co-skipper of J35 Mumbo.ie about their prospects for the Round Ireland, on the eve of the race.

Chambers and his co-skipper, Paddy Cronin, will be well known to most team racers for their lively presence on the Irish collegiate and dinghy racing circuit.

But for both, this is the first time they've joined forces offshore.

Their weapon of choice is a J35, a boat which has won the race in the past.

Facebook users can chart their progress online by using this link. We'll be following their progress with further podcasts as the race progresses.

The pair are hoping to raise money and awareness for their charity of choice, www.childfund.ie

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
