Warning to harbour hoggers

Waterways Ireland has reminded Masters and Owners of vessels that jetties adjacent to locks are specifically for the purpose of transiting those locks. Vessels should not obstruct or moor at these jetties.

The warning comes in MARINE NOTICE No 85 of 2008, typically at a time when boats are being tied up for the winter. The Canal Bye-Laws state: 25. Shannon Navigation Bye-Laws state: 17. (4) A person shall not moor a vessel or boat without the permission of the Commissioners-( d ) so as to obstruct or be likely to obstruct the passage of, or be or be likely to be a danger to, another vessel or boat or  to cause or be likely to cause injury or damage to persons or property,

Additionally Masters and Owners of vessels are advised that registration numbers and/or permits must be displayed where best seen and clearly visible to Waterways Ireland staff from ashore.
