Bookies get a rub of the green

Skipper Torben Grael and the crew of Ericsson 4 are the bookies 7/4 favourites after the first leg of the 2008/2009 Volvo Ocean Race. Bookmaker Paddy Power has the Green Dragon Racing team, as 4/1 third-favourites behind the Puma Racing Team at 2/1.

Outside of the Round Ireland race in 1998 this is one of the first times that Paddy Power has offered betting on a sailing event the bookmaker has reported “considerable interest” in their betting, according to green Dragon sources.

Paddy Power said “Most of the money is coming in support of Green Dragon Racing Team. Its early days, but already the Irish team would cost us a significant five figure sum should they win”

Paddy Power are also offering betting on second leg of the Volvo Ocean Race which departed from Capetown on Saturday15th November. Ericsson 4 are the 6/4 favourites and the Green Dragon racing team are available to back at 6/1
