FRIDAY FORUM - FEES

5th December 2008

From now on, we'll be giving a chosen topic from our forum a leg-up on the front page each Friday, giving you something to think about over the weekend. This week, we're looking at club membership fees in Ireland, and your thoughts on what's on offer out there.

We started the ball rolling a few days back, and the difference is staggering. From a standing start (i.e. not a member of any club), the cost of getting through the gate and into a club can differ by as much as €2,607 for the first year, and that's without looking at boat parking fees, car parking, insurance, and the shirt on your back.

We've only just begun looking at this topic. The thread is HERE, so click, read, and have your say.

We want to hear what you regard as value for money, and hear where, in the midst of recession gloom, the best value sailing in Ireland can be found.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
