Adventurers and hobbyists sought by charity

23rd January 2009

Calling all sailors. UK holiday company Vitalise Holidays is offering exciting sighted guiding opportunities to dedicated enthusiasts. National charity Vitalise is seeking enthusiasts of all descriptions to accompany groups of visually impaired people on holidays throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide in 2009.

From hill walkers to music lovers, canoeists to ballroom dancers, sailors to horse riders and cyclists to gourmets, Vitalise Holidays needs people with a zest for life to accompany visually impaired holidaymakers on life-changing experiences.

In recognition of the fantastic contribution they make, all sighted guides benefit from a discount on the price of their holiday.

This year Vitalise Holidays will take groups to unforgettable worldwide destinations including the Galapagos Islands, Cuba, Australia, the USA, Morocco, Canada and Jordan.

European holidays will explore the scenery and cultural delights Croatia, Spain, Madeira, Bulgaria, Turkey and Italy.

Some of the incredibly diverse activities include skiing in Finland, opera in Verona, tandem cycling in Holland, cruising the Mediterranean, wine tasting in France, horse riding in the Lake District and sailing the Turquoise Coast.

Nearer to home, Vitalise will take groups to The Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall, Shakespeare’s Stratford, London’s Palaces, Devon, Wicklow and the Isles of Scilly.

These are just a few of the sighted guiding opportunities offered by Vitalise in its new 2009 summer brochure.

The holidays cater for all tastes and budgets and are categorised into adventure, activity, interest, sightseeing and sun.  They are also graded according to the level of fitness or expertise required of the customers.  The visually impaired holidaymakers travel in small groups, accompanied by sighted guides and a Vitalise Holidays Representative.

Vitalise Holidays Manager Sam Earl said:

“Thanks to our wonderful sighted guides, the visually impaired people who go on our holidays gain as much, if not more, from these amazing destinations and activities as sighted people.  The enthusiasm of the sighted guides really makes the experience come alive for them.  The sighted guides have a holiday to remember too, and come away with a real sense of achievement.  We’re looking for people with a passion for life and the willingness to go that extra mile.”

Prospective sighted guides and visually impaired people can also sample some of Vitalise’s activities on special subsidised ‘taster’ weekends in the Lake District.  The Vitalise Holidays Weekends offer introductory sessions for activities including walking, canoeing and tandem cycling.
