‘It was nice to get nominated, even nicer to get shortlisted, and literally a complete shock to win the award,’ said Markham, who has been working as a freelance journalist since returning from Australia last year.
It was while working for the Irish Echo newspaper there that he came up with the name of his blog, which deals with everything from dodgy bank loans to the more legitimate use of blogs as marketing tools.
Markham claims that blogging is going to get stronger: ‘If you look at the likes of Obama, he used blogging to great effect in his campaign. Most of the papers are picking up on it now, nearly every mainstream paper will hae a couple of blogs at least on their site. It’s just a different tone of voice for media.’
