Community will be focus of ISA conference

26th February 2009

Developing local watersports Communities is the theme of the ISA National Conference, which takes place in the Burlington Hotel on 7th and 8th March 2009. It's not the most riveting subject for racing sailors but the national authority is sending out a message to local authorities that there is an opportunity to develop sustainable employment in coastal areas with watersport communities. The conference will also focus on grass roots participation, with a timetable of over 30 topics from training newcomers, race management, introducing the new racing rules, developing club membership and operating in these challenging times.

With the growing number of ISA motorboat members and clubs, the 2009 timetable will see an additional stream of topics.

ISA Chief Executive Harry Hermon explained: “Following the appointment of our Motorboat Development Officer we have a very active group of water users. There’ll be plenty of interesting topics for them such as powerboat racing and a PWC seminar.”

Delegates from ISA Sailing Clubs, Class Associations and Training Centres around the country will participate in the National Conference, where the social side of sailing & boating will not be neglected as the Awards Dinner takes place on Saturday evening.

It will be a busy weekend for all delegates with the inclusion of the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 7th March.
