Is your boat credit crunch currency?

6th April 2009

With the purse strings of most financial institutions remaining resolutely tight people are turning instead to the age old tradition of barter to get deals done. Perhaps boat sales or boating holidays in Ireland this season will be completed this way too?
On Saturday, the owner of a Kerry site overlooking the Ring of Kerry offered to swap it for a luxury car.
In the Sunday Business Post a company called 'Trade First' is advertising barter for business as a means to help firms survive in a recession.

What are the options for sailing and boating? Would you swap your yacht in Dun Laoghaire marina for a two week exchange with similar in Kinsale?

The idea is to conserve cash and pay with your asset. Sure, didn't we all do this in the 80s anyway?

Weekend in a lighthouse anyone? Leave your comment (or better still an offer below and what you are willing to trade) or join the dedicated forum thread here .

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
