Fishermen's bodies found off Connemara

22nd April 2009

The bodies of two men, who had been named locally as Tony Coohill and Féichín Mulkerrin, were recovered during an extensive air and sea search off north Galway Tuesday evening (21st April).

Mr Coohill, reported to be in his 30s, was married with two children. Mr Mulkerrin (58) was a father and grandfather. Both were from the Claddaghduff area and had previously lost brothers at sea.

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board is due to conduct an enquiry into the drowning of the two men off the north Connemara coast.

The men left Aughris pier in a motorised currach, beyond Claddaghduff, at about 8.30am that morning to check on lobster pots.
