Beamish elected Vice-Commodore of Royal Alfred

9th May 2009

After some sixteen years in various roles on the Alfred Committee, Paul Murphy stepped down as Vice Commodore at the recent Alfred AGM. The Commodore Ailbe Millerick proposed a vote of thanks to Paul for his long service to six past commodores which dated back to Geoff Whelan. His dedication was and still is, driven by a love of the Corinthian ideal in sailing which the RAYC embodies. He has always been a willing volunteer as both a race organiser in his early days in the Alfred and as a judge on the waterfronts of Dun Laoghaire, Howth and indeed further afield as an ISAF International Judge. He was instrumental in the RAYC achieving 150 years of Corinthian race organisation. He was elected to the Committee where his ongoing advice and knowledge of the Alfred's history will prove invaluable. We wish him well in his fight to regain his health aftr recent treatment. Peter Beamish a longtime successful campaigner in Cruisers One was elected Vice Commodore.

Baily Bowls first on the program

With the last minute scramble to get boats on the hard back into the water it's time to think of events. The Baily Bowl for J-109's Sigma 33's and Beneteau 31.7s is the first event on the calendar. A week later the Dragons SB3's Elites Squibs and Flying 15's go to sea to decide their Baily Bowls. Notice of Race and entry forms are available on the website in attachments to this article or in downloads.
