Howth YCs Sharkbait sweeps SB3

2nd June 2009

Sharkbait Racing have completed a clean sweep of SB3 events in May. Winning ten out of 17 races sailed and coming second in a further five, the Howth Yacht Club team took the SB3 Ireland Northern & Southern Championships, the Royal Alfred Yacht Club Baily Bowl and topped it off with the first HYC Tuesday series of the year.

They’ve not had it all their own way though. With half of the races won at the final leeward gate or on the beat to the finish, the SB3 remains one of the most competitive one design fleets in the country with incredibly close racing.

Helmsman Ben Duncan has been sailing SB3s for the last three years, gradually working out the details of what is a very tweaky boat to sail fast. After years of sailing SB3s and 1720s with Des Faherty, Brian Moran has joined the team. Sheet hand Ric Morris is new to SB3s this year having spent the last couple of years sailing in practically every fleet in north Dublin.

The video of Sharkbait from the Baily Bowl has featured on the Sailing Anarchy home page – with almost 10,000 views in its first couple of weeks, it’s well on the way to being one of the most watched sailing videos on YouTube.
