Sail training one focus of Friday's Seascapes

10th June 2009

Tom MacSweeney's radio show Seascapes (10.30pm, Friday June 12, RTE Radio 1) is taking a look at forty years of French-organised sail training in Ireland, and the man who developed the concept of tall ships training.

Also on the agenda is a report on Green Dragon, the latest angling news, a look at why St. Ciaran is obscured on the Connemara coastline, and the underlying problems of piracy at sea. Tune in on Friday for your weekly maritime fix.

Seascapes, presented by RTE's Marine Correspondent Tom MacSweeney and produced by Marcus Connaughton, is broadcast at 10.30pm each Friday night and repeated at 5.02am on Monday mornings on RTE Radio 1. The programme is also available as a podcast and is broadcast twice a week on the digital station, RTE Choice, on Wednesday mornings at 7.30am and Saturday lunchtimes at 12.30pm.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
