Body Found In Search For Missing Japanese Tourists Off Kilkee

#Missing - Emergency teams have reportedly found a body in the search for two Japanese tourists missing off the Clare coast for more than a week.

As previously reported on Afloat.ie, Eiji Takagi (61) and Ushio Azaki (61) have not been seen since Saturday 22 August, when they checked out of their hotel in Spanish Point.

Their rental car was found on Tuesday 25 August at Byrnes Cove in Kilkee, and search and rescue teams focused their attention to the coastline north from Kilkee to Doonbeg.

It's now being reported by TheJournal.ie that a body has been recovered after being found by a diver off George's Head just north of Kilkee this afternoon (Sunday 30 August) though there has been no formal identification as yet.

In other news, a diver has been treated for the bends after an incident off Kerry yesterday (Saturday 29 August).

According to BreakingNews.ie, the man reported feeling unwell after a routine dive, prompting emergency services to arrange for him to be treated in specialised facilities at University Hospital Galway.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
