“Hello and welcome aboard this week’s edition of Seascapes your maritime programme, this week a full report from last weekend’s Afloat.ie Volvo – Irish Sailing Association Annual Awards at the Royal Dublin Society Concert Hall in Ballsbridge, we’ll bring you details of the ISA Training Centre of the Year; Youth Sailor of the Year; Sailor of the Year and the ISA President's Awards of which there were two and we’ll be talking to Rory Fitzpatrick; James O’ Callaghan; ISA President David Lovegrove and Harry Hermon of the ISA following a memorable year, where Afloat's Volvo Sailor of the Year was drawn from a shortlist of nominees from the Afloat Magazine Sailor of the Month nominees ....we congratulate Atlantic Challenge Rower Gavan Hennigan from Galway on his remarkable record breaking achievement raising funds and awareness for Cancer Care West and mental health charity JIGSAW ........first tonight to the Volvo ISA Awards and the young lady who achieved Silver at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro – Sailor of the Year – Annalise Murphy received a standing ovation from the capacity crowd.........

Annalise and I had last spoken at Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club as the were heading for Brasil and the Silver Medal in the Laser Radial Class at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.....

Rory Fitzpatrick who played such a major role in Annalise Murphy’s success in the Olympic Games in Rio , Also awarded the Presidents Award was Colin Morehead for his sterling work on the “Try Sailing “ programme in Royal Cork Yacht Club with well in excess of one hundred adults trying sailing for the first time...Seascapes spoke with ISA President David Lovegrove backstage at the RDS Concert Hall...

Next to Volvo ISA Training Centre of the Year, nominated were Mullaghmore Sailing Club and Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club however the winners were Foynes Yacht Club a club based on the Shannon Estuary in Co Limerick...

Well from Foynes and Patrick Finucane lets hear next from the VOLVO ISA Youth Sailor of the Year whom Rory Fitzpatrick mentioned earlier he is Ewan McMahon of Howth Yacht Club ....

Joe Ryan was in contact about a lecture on next Wednesday 8th February on Dublin Port’s Diving Bell An illustrated lecture on the Diving Bell will take place at The Poolbeg Yacht Club, South Bank, Pigeon House Road, Dublin 4 on Wednesday February 8th 2017 at 20:00. Joe Ryan, Irish Coast Guard (retired) will present this lecture also on Monday Joe is giving a talk to The Heritage Society of Engineers Ireland in Engineers Ireland at 6.30pm at their HQ in Clyde Road in Dublin

The South Pole Inn in Annascaul is the venue this weekend on Sunday @ 2.30pm for an illustrated talk on the traverse of South Georgia by Aileen Crean O’ Brien

We congratulate Gavan Hennigan from Galway who finished in 3rd place overall ahead of multiple boats with one, two, three and four rowers onboard arriving into Antigua in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge , Gavan was raising funds and awareness for Cancer Care West and the Mental Health Charity – “Jigsaw” Bravo....quite an achievement and breaking the Irish record...
In Swimming the Ice Mile Swim takes place on Lough Dan tomorrow morning......on Nationwide on RTE One Television on Monday night Mary Kennedy visits Clare Island ; Inishbofin and Inishturk.....

“On the sound desk on Seascapes this week Bryan Fitzpatrick, next week here on your maritime programme Seascapes brings you the Sail Training Ireland for Youth Development presentation Awards to young sail trainees which were held in The Mansion House on Dublin’s Dawson Street with a large audience in attendance, where we met newly appointed CEO of Sail Training Ireland – Daragh Sheridan ; Chairman Seamus McLoughlin ; Chief Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service – Commander Hugh Tully ; Sailor Ross Biggane and much more ....so until next Friday night , tight lines and fair sailing.”
