Dun Laoghaire's Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was called to assist two kite-surfers off Dollymount Strand on Friday (September 25th).
The incident occurred shortly before 3pm when a novice kite-surfer lost control and started to be carried away from the beach by a fresh westerly wind. A second kite-surfer went to his assistance and both managed to reach the rocky breakwater of the North Bull Wall but were unable to reach safety.
The Irish Coastguard tasked its Rescue Helicopter from Dublin Airport that landed its winchman to the stranded kite-surfers. The Dun Laoghaire ILB was tasked to assist at the scene and brought all three persons to the beach where both casualties were checked on the helicopter that had landed on a clear section of strand.
Neither required hospital treatment and both walked to their cars along with the runaway kite that had also been retrieved by the ILB about one mile out to sea.
