Kinsale RNLI have announced Ocean Yachtsman & Bowman Justin Slattery from Wexford as guest speaker at the annual RNLI "Sailing by the Lee" lunch on Friday, 12th February, 2010 at the Maryborough Hotel, Douglas, Cork. This follows on from the success of last year’s event where world renound yachtsman, Sir Chay Blyth was guest speaker. The event has earned a reputation for showcasing high profile speakers including Ron Holland, Roy Disney, Bruno Troublé and Brad Butterworth.
Proceedings will commence at 1200 (with a drinks reception) followed by a three course lunch at 1245hrs. The guest speaker’s presentation will be followed by a luxury raffle & random spot prizes.Commenting on the launch of the event, Susie Elliott, Kinsale RNLI’s Fundraising Secretary stated, “We are delighted to have secured Justin Slattery (pictured abve) to address the event. He has some incredible maritime stories and adventures to recount. Justin was born in Cork and raised in Wexford and has, throughout his sailing career, gathered vast and impressive international professional experience. He has excelled in many of the world's most prestigious events since his professional career began in 1995. Although bowman is his primary position, his skills are well-rounded and he is also particularly valuable in the areas of trimming and rig management.
This year, we will also be marking the retirement of Tom McSweeney from a commendable 35 year career as Marine Correspondent with RTE. Tom has been a supreme asset and resource to the marine industry in Ireland, broadcasting the triumphs, tragedies and concerns of all connected to our island nation’s coastline.”
