#commodorescup – The introduction of a new 'small boat' class (up to IRC 1.05) in the 2016 Commodore's Cup is attracting a lot of worldwide interest and none more so than in Ireland, the home of the defending champions.
The Irish Cruiser Racer Association (ICRA) has announced it has already received enquiries from a number of very competitive boats looking to represent Ireland next year. ICRA commodore Norbert Reilly says 'In addition to the main team ICRA is open to all proposals'. Reilly hints this may also be an Irish team where 50% of the are youth/under 25 sailors.
Reilly also says the Commodore's Cup event is an ideal event for back up teams looking to get International experience and prepare for the 2018 event without the pressure of being in the main team. 'They will experience the highest level of IRC racing inshore and offshore and learn exactly what is required' he told Afloat.ie
