European Fireball bronze for Rowan

20th August 2009
European Fireball bronze for Rowan
Dun Laoghaire sailor Francis Rowan and his helm Tom Gillard took third place at the Fireball European championships in La Rochelle today, finishing with a lacklustre 28th and 25th, but doing enough to hold off the British sailing pairing of Lewis & Bailey to retain third place. Vince Horey and Rob Gardner took the event outright.

Noel Butler and Seamus Moore finished with their best result to date, but fifth place was only enough for them to retain 22nd overall, the best result by an all-Irish crew at the event. Kenneth Rumball and David Moran were the next best in 25th, followed by Conor Clancy and Owen Laverty in 31st. Eight Irish crews took part.

The event runs into the World Championships, which begins at the same venue on Monday.
