#optimistnationals – I was delighted to win the Junior Optimist Nationals in Skerries, County Dublin last weekend writes Conor Gorman (aged12) . When I saw the forecast, I was happy that the winds were going to be light, which are my best conditions. We sailed ten great races over the four days and over 90 boats raced in the junior fleet.
Skerries Sailing Club and all the organisers did a great job, both on and off the water. I enjoyed hanging out with all my friends after racing and sailing against them during the event. I was coming 3rd or 4th for most of the event but managed to sail well on the final day to win. I felt sorry for Rory and Harry and Hugh who all sailed really well. I'm glad to win the trophy my sister, Clare, won 2 years ago and am really looking forward to the next event. Thanks to my coaches for their help and my Mum for washing all my gear!
