Squib Sailing

This page details racing updates for the Squib, a 19 foot long One Design keelboat that offers competitive racing at an affordable price and as a result it is raced in many of the sailing centres around Ireland.

First launched in 1967 more than 800 Squibs have been built. The class is one of the five most popular racing classes in the UK with National Championships regularly attracting over 100 boats. Up to 30 boats can be expected at Irish championships.

According to the class association the Irish fleets are largest in the Dublin Bay area, but fleets also race regularly in Kinsale and Glandore in Munster, Belfast Lough and the Quoile in Ulster and Clew Bay in Connacht. Squibs can be bought new for about 16,000 Euros competitive second hand boats can be bought from 4000 Euros.

A regular regional regatta circuit is run each year.
