Kayaking Medals For Ireland At Special Olympics World Games In LA

#Kayaking - Two medals and a ribbon were awarded to Irish kayakers at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles yesterday.

As the Herald reports, Nuala Browne from Tyrone and Rita Quirke from Kildare took silver and bronze respectively in the 500m kayak final in Long Beach, with Dubliner Nicola Higgins awarded a merit ribbon for fifth place.

“It was really, really exciting," said kayak coach chaperone Angelina Foley of the final. "We were so nervous and now we’re so proud of all the kayakers. They’ve just tried their very best and put so much effort into it.”

The result helped bring Ireland's total medal tally to 33 after the fifth day of competition at the games, with great performances in athletics, equestrian and table tennis, among others.
