Portrush To Host Surf Kayaking Worlds In 2017

#SurfKayaking - The Causeway Coast will host the 2017 Surf Kayaking Worlds, as the Coleraine Times reports.

Top-flight surf kayakers from as far away as Australia will converge on Portrush – which hosted the sport's British Open in 2013 – a little over two years from how for the nine-day competition.

And it's hoped that homegrown talent, too, will have an opportunity to show their stuff on the biggest stage for their sport.

"The shoreline in Portrush has been the training ground for previous world class athletes including local men Johnny Bingham and Andy McClelland," said Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI) spokesperson Ashley Hunter.

“These Northern Ireland athletes and the Northern Ireland squad will be hoping for podium finishes."

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
