Sean Jacob had plenty to spare as he won the men’s senior single sculls title at the National Championships in the NRC in Cork today. The UCD man credited the programme laid down by national senior coach Adrian Cassidy as important in his continuing good form, but club athletes had surprisingly emphatic wins over those in the international programme in the interemediate single sculls. Marie O’Neill of Cork beat Claire Lambe into second in the women’s event, while John Keohane won the men’s class, with Cian Pidgeon of Castleconnell second and current international Michael Maher in third. Junior international Turlough Hughes did not make the final.
Neptune’s Claire Lambe and Elaine Fitzgerald ended a fantastic season for them by winning the women’s senior pair.
