18th February 2017
Daire Lynch Daire Lynch

#Rowing: Daire Lynch, who is just 18, was the fastest heavyweight competitor at the Ireland Assessment at the National Rowing Centre in Cork today. Paul and Gary O’Donovan topped the rankings as the fastest single scullers, but Lynch slotted in next, ahead of 22-year-old Sam McKeown, who was disappointed with his row over the six kilometres course. Barry O’Flynn was the fastest junior.

Mark O’Donovan and Shane O’Driscoll set a very good time of 22 minutes and five seconds in the lightweight pair, the fastest boat of the day.

Competition in the event was delayed for 90 minutes because of heavy fog in the morning.
