Writing in Marine Industry News, boat recycling expert Luke Edney says a dedicated plan is needed to avoid the UK’s shores becoming a dumping ground for end-of-life boats.
Influenced in no small part by a costly disposal process, more and more boats are being dumped around British coasts and shores. But Edney asks: “Where is the leadership to solve the issue going to come from?”
He argues that marinas and sailing clubs can take the lead in best practice for disposal — while “a real game changer” would be a greener solution for recycling fibre-reinforced plastic hulls.
