Kiwi team for VOR?

20th April 2010
Kiwi team for VOR?
Prompted, one can only assume, by the finish being in Galway in 2012, new Volvo Ocean Race teams are coming out of the woodwork thick and fast at the moment. The latest rumour is that Team New Zealand will field an entry, with an announcement expected today.

The source of the leak is an article on Spanish news site Gaceta Nautica, stating that the team would be based in Palma, Mallorca, with sponsorship coming from shoe company Camper.

A further article on the New Zealand Herald website backs up those claims, with quotes from TNZ bosses Grant Dalton and Warren Douglas bolstering the hype.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Puma's announcement that Ken Read will again sail the giant floating shoe that came second in the last edition of the race.

More as we have it, but it looks like Galway may have to look at expanding the harbour.
