Afloat.ie: Forum Topics This Week

Afloat.ie is giving away Henri Lloyd and Helly Hansen hats for good suggestions made on its forum thread 'Brain Waves – ideas to develop our coastline', which is bringing up some interesting ideas. Cimota would love to see colour-coded maps of mooring points, or a Google map; while David Whitaker suggests floating boxes instead of concrete piers for smaller clubs; and Wandering Aengus would like to see a revival of centres that were once commercial (fishing and coal harbours) into leisure centres, and says we should be thinking ‘micro’, not ‘macro’. All ideas are welcome and you could win a hat! Log on and give your idea here. Elsewhere on the forum, Ezgoing has asked to hear from parents and other sailors as to where children go when their Optimist gets too small. Glouisfr says the One Metre Class may be what they’re looking for as it’s easy to transport and doesn’t cost a fortune to rig. What do you think? Comment here

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
