Clonmel/Castleconnell Quad Fastest in Tough Rowing Conditions

#RowingCastleconnell: The fastest crew of the day at the Castleconnell Head of the River was the Castleconnell/Clonmel composite quadruple of David Quinlan, Alan Prendegast, Adrian Sheehan and Stewart Shannon. St Joeeph's won the boy's quad. The junior eight from St Michael’s posted the fastest time in this class. David O’Malley, Eoghan Whittle and Conor Carmody were among the junior scullers who had good results, and Presentation had the strongest junior pair of the day. Conditions were challenging, with strong head winds during the day and some showers in the late morning.

Skibbereen Head and Rowing Ireland EGM Cancelled

#RowingSkibbereenHead: The Skibbereen Head of the River, set for this Saturday at the National Rowing Centre in Cork, has been cancelled. There were predictions of high winds and organizers felt that with an event in which many young rowers would compete it was best to err on the side of caution. Three hundred and thirty crews had entered.

The Rowing Ireland egm, which had been scheduled for the same venue, has also been cancelled.

St Michael's Rowing Crews Top Rankings at O'Brien's Bridge

# # ROWING: The fastest crew at the St Michael’s Head of the River at O’Brien’s Bridge on Saturday was the senior eight from the host club. The St Michael’s senior four slotted in as the second fastest on a dry day with a gusty crosswind. Galway had its say in third place, as the junior 18 eight from Colaiste Iognaid filled this spot.

McKillen and Jacques Fastest Single Scullers at Lagan Scullers' Head

# ROWING: The Rowing Ireland talent identification programme run by Nathan Adams in Belfast provided the fastest female and male single scullers at the Lagan Scullers’ Head of the River on Saturday. Up-and-coming talents Gareth McKillen and Bridget Jacques topped the rankings. A Belfast Boat Club/RBAI composite coxed quadruple scull was the fastest crew of the day.

Espersen Sees Galway Rowers Rule at Erne Head

# ROWING: Morten Espersen was an interested spectator for a fine day of rowing at the Erne Head of the River at Enniskillen today. The Ireland HPD saw a composite from Galway come home fastest of a strong field of men’s senior eights. The crews, which featured the experience of Grainne Mhaol along with NUIG and St Joseph’s, had three seconds to spare over UCD. The Dublin college had good reason to be pleased as they started third but were faster than Queen’s, who started ahead of them. Neptune’s junior 18 eight had a good ninth placing.

Neptune Quadruples Come Out on Top in Lagan Head

# ROWING: Neptune Rowing Club had a good day at the Lagan Head of the River in Belfast on Saturday. Men’s junior quadruple sculls from the Dublin club placed first and second in Head One. Rory O’Connor of Queen’s University was the fastest senior single sculler.

Trinity Seniors and Shandon Juniors Fastest at Muckross Head

# ROWING: Shandon’s junior 18 eight was the fastest junior crew at the Muckross head of the River at the National Rowing Centre in Cork on Saturday. The Cork crew clocked 10 minutes 18 seconds. Trinity’s men’s senior eight was the fastest of the day, with a time of nine minutes 33 seconds for the 3,800 metres.
