#ROWING: Lagan Scullers’ Head of the River, scheduled for Saturday in Belfast, has been cancelled. “The forecast was bad and getting worse,” said race director Gordon Reid this afternoon. The weather system could have made the course dangerous. Cork Head, however, is set to go ahead at the Marina on Saturday, with an entry of 280 crews. The high water levels on the Corrib have led to the early cancellation of Galway Head, which was set for St Patrick’s weekend.

#ROWING: Cork Head of the River, which was scheduled for the Marina in Cork tomorrow (Friday) has been called off. The honorary secretary of the organising committee, Susan Dunlea, informed interested parties today of the decision, stating: "It is with regret that I have to inform you that Cork HOR scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday 15th February, has to be cancelled due to the weather forecast. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

Irish rowing has had no competitive event this year so far. Six heads of the river have been called off: Kerry, Sligo, St Michael's, Shannon, Lagan and now Cork. St Michael's originally rescheduled for next Saturday, February 22nd, but last night abandoned this plan as well.

#ROWING: The Lagan Head of the River Races, scheduled for this Saturday, have been cancelled. The organisers, Belfast Boat Club, say that the safety and wellbeing of competitors and organisers was their primary focus. Because of  a combination of increased flow on the river, and the forecast wind speed, wind direction, and temperature they would be unable to guarantee the safe marshalling of crews for a head of the river race. They made the decision in order that crews can make other arrangements for the weekend.

However, the organisers of Cork Head of the River, which is also set for Saturday, hope to hold the event. Any decision on cancellation will be announced tomorrow (Friday).

#Rowing: The Head of the Shannon, set for this Saturday, has fallen to the bad weather. The event, organised by Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing Club, cannot be held because the river is in flood. The weather forecast is for more high winds.

Irish rowing has had no on-the-water competitive events this year so far, as the St Michael’s, Kerry and Sligo heads have already been cancelled, though St Michael’s say they hope to stage their event on February 22nd.

The Dublin Metropolitan Regatta will now take place on May 17th, moving from its slot in June to fill the space left by the cancelled Queen’s University Regatta.

ROWING: The St Michael’s head of the river, which was to be held this Saturday, February 1st, has been postoned for three weeks. The organisers say that he forecast of “very severe” weather prompted the move. The rescheduled head will be on February 22nd. Plans to hold the Kerry and Sligo heads of the river also fell to poor weather earlier this month.

#NeptuneHead: The fastest crew home at the Neptune Head of the River at Blessington Lakes today was the UCD men’s senior eight, but a four made up of two pairs in the Ireland training system were  third, nine seconds behind the UCD eight. Cormac Folan and Dave Neale, who train in Dublin, and Aidan McEvoy and Finbar Manning, who are based in Limerick, were watched by Don McLachlan, the Ireland lead coach. The double of Gary and Paul O’Donovan caught a crab directly in front of McLachlan, but were the fastest double of the day. However, Niall Kenny won the senior single sculls impressively, posting significantly faster times in both the first and second heads than Paul O’Donovan could manage in his effort in the first head.
