A new play based on the lives of Belfast shipyard workers had its world premiere in East Belfast last Tuesday (5 October).

The Boat Factory tells the story of Davy Gordon, beginning as he follows in his family's footsteps onto the Harland & Wolff shipyards as a 16-year-old in post-war Belfast, and accompanying him through years of apprenticeship, friendship, laughter and tragedy.

The Happenstance Theatre Company production, directed by Philip Crawford, features writer Dan Gordon as Davy, a character based on his own father. Michael Condron rounds out the two-man cast as his friend Geordie Kilpatrick and a whole host of other minor characters that Davy encounters in his years on the yards. (SEE VIDEO BELOW FOR MORE)

The Boat Factory is currently on a short tour of Northern Ireland until 16 October. Details of venues and tickets are available at www.happenstancetheatre.co.uk
