A teddy bear has been united with its owner after it went missing at sea.
The teddy named “Rabbie” was owned by Sophie Callaghan from Donegal, who was on holiday with her parents on board the Princess cruise ship, Sun Princess.
She only realised her teddy wasn’t with her when she and her family were on their way home.
The ship’s captain, Brian Whelan from Galway, searched the ship with his staff “from the laundry to the funnel to the stateroom, even under the bed”.
“Unfortunately, he did not have a medallion,” Brian joked, referring to the cruise ship’s medallion technology, which allows guests to locate each other when onboard.
With the help of the ship’s security, rooms division, and technical team, “Rabbie” was located safe and sound – in the ship’s bridge, where he had been "helping" the crew.
On September 6th, Capt Whelan travelled to Donegal to deliver “Rabbie” home.
"It was a real joy to make that trip to Donegal. Seeing Sophie’s face light up when she saw “Rabbie” again was worth every mile," he said.
"It’s always lovely to meet fellow Irish people on the ships I work on. It brings a sense of home to me when I’m away,”he added.
