Speakers Lineup Grows For Virtual Island Summit
More details have been revealed regarding the Virtual Island Summit taking place next month from 7-13 September.
As previously reported on Afloat.ie, some 140 ambassadors representing 10,000 islanders will take part in the summit that will discuss the many common challenges faces by island communities in the 21st century.
Joining Dr Nóirín Birke of the National Aquarium of Ireland and former journalist Trish Hegarty among the speakers and chairs will be Rhoda Twombly, secretary of Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann (Irish Islands Federation) and the European Small Islands Federation (ESIN), and Dr Sarah Robinson, a postdoctoral researcher on grassroots radio projects in the West Cork islands.
Máirtín Ó Méalóid, manager of the Cape Clear Island Cooperative, will also take part, as will Bere Island Boatyard owner Gerard Sullivan, Cape Clear Island resident and technology writer and editor Simon Cocking, and Westport-based journalist Aine Ryan.
Brendan Smith of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics will talk connections via technology, while island residents Cathy Ní Ghóill and John Walsh will being their wealth of experience to bear.
Attendance at the virtual summit is free but registration is essential.
