Crosshaven Lifeboatman for TV stardom!

20th July 2009

One of Crosshaven's local trawlermen and RNLI volunteer crewman Michael Meade is one of a number of trawlermen around Ireland who will be filmed as part of a TV documentary series to be called 'Skippers'. Independent television company Open Eye TV will follow the lives of various skippers, their crews, and the problems they face trying to make a living from the sea.

Their second visit to Crosshaven saw them highlighting Michael Meade's other involvement with the sea: his role as a Volunteer Crewman on the Crosshaven RNLI Lifeboat. The crew filmed the station, a launch and an exercise where Michael went overboard and was recovered. A second rib, povided by South Coast Marine, acted as a camara platform for the film crew.

You can expect to see the series on RTÉ either in December 2009 or early in 2010.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
