Top of the Oppies get the nod

6th May 2008

The pick of Ireland's Optimist fleet have finally completed trials to select teams for this year’s World Championships in Turkey and European Championships in Italy’s Lake Garda.

Ireland's top 69 sailors in the world's premier junior class faced off over three weekends, which were blighted by bad weather from the start.

The first three days were blown out due to persistent easterly winds at the Howth, but last weekend Kinsale proved to be better favoured by the weather gods and over three and half days of compact racing 12, races were held to determine the World and European Teams
