Race with the Green Dragon

19th August 2008

Entrants to this weekend's Cocoon Cruiser Challenge have been invited to test their mettle against the fastest boat in the country this Friday. Can YOU port tack the Green Dragon?

Ireland's entry in the Volvo Ocean Race will cruise into Dublin Bay for a three-day visit, and cruiser-racers will have the chance to share a start line with the 70-foot behemoth at 16:15, out in Dublin Bay.

The Green Dragon, which recently completed its 2,020-mile qualifying run in the North Atlantic in five days, will drop in to Dublin for a short stop, before heading on to Belfast and then the race start port in Alicante, Spain.

Instructions from Dublin Bay Sailing Club are to find the Mac Lír, keep an ear on Channel 74, and give adequate room for the slab-sided beast when she makes her approach.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
