Irish addition to Team Russia

22nd August 2008

Team Russia has added an Irish name to their crew list - Jeremy Elliott - one of four new signings for the Dorset-based team. The North Sails employee has been involved in the Russian team's sail design since the beginning.

Elliott, born in Ireland but based out of England, joined North Sails in March 2006, with the announcement of his appointment being made patriotically on St Patrick's day.

Before joining North, Elliott had been design consultant on several major projects, including America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race projects, and Olympic projects, finding time to sail on winning TP52s as the classe emerged on the grand prix circuit.

He was on the sailing and design team for GBR Challenge America¹s Cup teams in 2002 and 2004 and was on the sail design team for Luna Rossa in 2007.

He comes aboard as trimmer and sail designer, and will enjoy two homecomings during the race - the first as he arrives into Galway, and the second as the race enters St Petersburg for the big finish.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
